So i have a spare 5 gal.
I plan on deviding it into two and getting two Bettas and giving them 2.5 gals each.
OR
I have a spare 10 gal where i can devide into 5 giving 2 gals each to 5 bettas.

SO
Which, in your opinion is better?
I can go for either, just want your opinion and views, any pros or cons?

Thanks

DD

i would divide the 10gallon
the more bettas the better

but the 5gal coud work just as well......

or you could divide up the 5gal with two males and make a 10gal female community.

I need one spare one, so i cant use both, if i could, i wouldn't be asking the question :p
(i need one tank for my other fish's fry etc )

Use the 5 g and donate the 10g to a worthe cause..... say.... me! :p

No seriously you may be better using the 10g for fry as you never know how many you'll get.

Although the more betta the better in my opinion!

i wouldn't divide a 10 gallon into 5 sections. while the fish each get 2 gallons...that 2 gallon segment is only four inches wide. it's tall and narrow, which is completely opposite of what is ideal for a betta

Supersix one, not to hijack the thread, but if I split my 5.5 g into 3 sections, either 1.25 g, 3 g, and 1.25 g, would that be too tight? I haven't done measurements yet. Otherwise I can divide it into 3 equal compartments, which would be big enough. Just curious.

It may be ok. I wouldn't do it though. Unless I had no more tanks and my betta collection rised.

Dividing a 10 gal into sections isn't bad for the bettas. I have a 22 gallon divided 8 ways and mine are happy as punch in there. It's like 10 " tall by 4" wide by 10" deep. They can all turn around happily and swim back and forth and up and down.

They will have about the same amount of room dividing a 5 gallon 2 ways as they would dividing a 10 gallon 5 ways.

I definitely see what you are saying supersixone, I have my 10 divided into 4 sections and I do feel bad at times thinking it is too narrow. Also dividing it into 5 makes it harder to clean b/c it is harder to get a net/hand in there and stuff to get decorations out. Now on the other hand I have a divided 5 and think it is absolutely big enough, it is divided twice and it seems like more than enough room for them.

i don't think i'd want to use something so narrow that i have to specify that my fish are able to turn around. dividing the 5 gal makes two 8x8x10 sections, which to me is much better than 4x10x10. i'd still prefer to use the 12x6x8 2.5 gals though. a betta's natural environment is shallow but vast.

Well let's put it this way, the sections are wide enough that they are almost 3 times in width as the betta is long. I don't find that to be bad at all.

I mentioned them being able to turn around...as someone mentioned earlier about a divided tank being too slim in width.

And last I checked a 5 gallon wasn't the same dimensions as a 10 gallon...the ones we have in our stores aren't anyways, they are much more shallow in depth (along with width). So you would just be substituting depth with width.

exactly. the two are not of equal weight; width is more valuable to a betta.
