Okay i shall do a before and after this was my tropical 2ft bow fronted community tank - slowly becoming overstocked with the expanding family of guppies:
And this is my new tank: A 3ft long tank, 16inches high and 15 inches wide. 142 liters i do believe
Purchased with cabinet, heating, lighting, gravel and external Rena XP2 Filter (which had been running for 2 years (so quite well established) all for £75.00
The tank is currently home to 15 adult guppies and about 20 guppy fry, 1 balloon molly, 1 silver molly, 1 mickey mouse platy, 1 gold ringed butterfly sucker, 4 amano shrimp and some snails.
I would like to add some angels, some glass catfish, a large plec, and some neons - what would be the best stocking levels of each for this size tank? leaving a little room encase i want to add something different.
The plants are a mix of fakes and live - only four live plants currently- However i aim to purchase some more. In this tank i do not have a layer of fertiliser under the gravel - however i do add plant food - will the plants still grow?
The hard scape is a large piece of Mago wood. I think it looks like an elephants head It is similar to bog wood - however this stuff needs to be anchored down or -wedged (as in this case). Does anyone know if plec's will still graze off of this stuff?
The tank had been running for 2 years at a friends house. So when i bought it from her we kept water in the filter and got the tank up and running within 5 hours. however i did not add any fish for at least 16hours. will this have affected the bacteria? will the tank be cycling again? non of the mature filter media has been touched.
The tank is running at:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 40
Which i believe is typical of an established aquarium?
I have raised the temperature slightly to ward off any health related issues.
Anyway - what do you think? any suggestions for change?
Here are some photos of the fish in my temperate tank, I was cleaning their actual tank out so this is a photo of a few in a small holding tank
That is Pat Butcher she is my 5 year old adult fantail
That one makes me laugh it looks like another fish is coming out of her bum ^
These are my apple snails ^^ Cox and Granny Smith
These fish share this tank:
The tank is cloudy as i have just revamped it - added new gravel and moved everything around etc.
With 1 adult fan tail
2 baby fantails
3 bronze corydoras
2 leopard Danios
2 Zebra Danios
2 Pearl Danios
and 2 apple snails
As the Fan tails grow i will be moving them to a larger tank.
I am hoping to add a few minnows to the tank and more plants.
what do you think?
