We'll i thought id share my this story since i think its kinda funny...I have a one year old gray and white cat...Her name is Kiwi and shes da best :p ...For the last few months ive been letting her out at nights and letting her get some fresh air now that nice weather is here...At first i was worried about her and questioned my logic for letting her out seeing as i live close to downtown and there is heavy traffic in the area...I bought her a break away collar with a little metal case that holds a note that had my phone # and her name in it so that helped me out a little...SHe was really good and never seemed to wander to far away...I could go outside hours after letting her out and call her name and i could hear her meow and she'd be at my feet within minutes...Hungry and looking for attention  ....But i let her out on Monday of last week and when i went looking for her she wasnt around...I got worried and by wednesday i went on a cathunt which ended with me still -1 cat...We'll i get a phone call today...A full week later from a nice woman who found her on the otherside of town...I was soooo happy...i picked her up and she is perfectly fine and has some red on her face :sly: i wonder why....guess she has been eating...ANyways i dont know if im going to let her out anymore...But just watching her now i know she has a taste for the outdoors and i wont be able to stop her during the summer months....Oh well ...I know she can handle herself and the collar works out well so i guess its ok...Thank god shes fixed...Im not ready to be a faher

I won't give you a speil on the dangers of letting your cat wander (I did back when I lived in Minnesota, but in Arizona, never, too many critter eating critters here).
But I will suggest looking into getting her microchipped if they offer that up there (your vet should know). That way, if she somehow slips out of that collar, at least there will still be some way for her to be identified and returned to you.

Digital, price will depend on where you have it done. Through a vet, it will be a bit more, but often there are groups out there that will do it for a lower cost. You just have to search around. My vet will do it for about $55 US, just to give you an idea

Wonderful news that she is back home safe and sound. I know the feeling of wandering kitties all too well and having just lost another a week ago due to a car accident, I keep my other one indoors and only as a house cat.
Anyway, like MAM said, microchipping is definitely the way to go. Too often collars just go missing when in car accidents and cats end up being put down because of injuries, and vets not being able to contact owners.

I will definately look into it...Such a good idea and piece of mind!

Sorry to hear bout your cat bloozoo...

aaaaawwwww glad she is now home safe and well after her adventure. I agree with everyone else micro chipping is a good idea if you are going to let her out as i can't count the number of collars my kitty has lost over the years  I'm lucky really shes never gone missing :)
