Gill - Do you have every small fish possible? How many tanks do you have?

They look great, I'm undecided on what fish to get next for my community tank and these guys are moving up the list every time i see them. It wont be for a couple of months yet so as i've just started a new job and gone from weekly to monthly pay and am skint now. I'll have plenty of time to decide.

nice fish. looks like you have the New Guinea variety. They have more red in them compared to the Australian ones.
They will breed readily in the tank but the fry are tiny and need to be fed green water and infusoria for the first couple of weeks. Then they can go onto microworms and newly hatched brineshrimp.

Ahhh so there are different Varieties of them, I know there are a re few different Colors of them. but thought they were just color morphs.
They are Very Hardy fish and i have tried them in still water tanks. They loved it in the green water with the daphnia.

The different colour forms are the same species but they occur in different areas. The New Guinea variety has more red in its fins and body.
Australia has a form in the Northern Territory that has a yellowish tinge but no red in it. The other Australian variety comes from north Queensland and has a small amount of red but not as much as the New Guinea type.
