Hey,

My terrapin Archie has a sore on his leg. He has had it a while because I assumed it was just from his friend Lola who gets very excited about food and looses control of her legs stabbing anything in her path. I has however not shown any sign of healing. It is a oval scab that is light brown and half hangs off on his front right leg, It doesnt appear to be painful or bother him though... does anyone know if this is something that could be serious or if its just loke a wart or something?

If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

Thanx

Sarah.

It could be one of a number of things to be honest, a photograph would help us out a lot.

In the mean time basic first aid for such things -

Move him to a separate container (a plastic box is a good, cheap temporary tank).

For an hour or so a day completely empty the water and allow him to dry out completely (a heat lamp can be provided, but only for 10 min. bursts as, without water, he has no way of cooling down) During this time you can apply normal antiseptic cream to the wound.

Completely change the water every day. Don't worry about using cycled water, tap water is fine (the aim is to remove bacteria rather than encourage them, and short term it will not have any ill effect on his health).

Repeat the process for two or three days and see if it looks like its starting to heal.

excellent advice above-especially important is to let him dry out for a day. turtles are notoriously slow to heal so be patient. so long as he is eating and using the leg, and there is no sign of infection he should heal up just fine with the care suggested above.
a photo would certainly help.
cheers
