I have not long bought a tropical freshwater tank 120L and had it running for a week before i started to buy some fish.
Now the water is so cloudy you cant see the back of the tank atol and hardly see any of my fish unless they are up against the front glass.
Can anyone give me some advice on why this is and if i should take any action.
I was going to change all the water but i thought this might kill the fish.
Im new to fish keeping so dont really know.

okay how long have the fish been in the new tank for? it could be a bacteria Bloom!

you should probably put this in the emergency section as well. It will get better coverage there. It does sound like an algae bloom. What are your water test results for ammonia and nitrites/nitrates?

it will be a bacterial bloom because of the waste in the water.

basically whoever told you to wait and week and then put fish in gave you some very bad advice, you see an aquarium filter is like a computer with no software on, it's a bit of hardware with no real function! The filters in our aquariums need to be set up correctly before adding fish, and by this I don't mean follow the instructions and plug them in, I mean that you need to develop the 'good bacteria' that grow in the filter and consume fish's waste. If you don't do this it basically means all you're doing is pushing the water around you're not actually cleaning it out, so when you put fish in, their waste makes ammonia which is toxic to fish and this builds up and if not carefully managed will make the fish very unwell and is easily capable of killing even the most hardy fish.

If you read the link in my signature 'whats cycling' this will explain some more about the process to you, have a look and then post back with any questions you have.
