hi. i havent been on for a while so came to update. i got a clown just over a week ago. it died after 5 days he got jammed under a rock some how. i took readings and everything was fine but something i did notice was that he never ate in his time being in the tank. would this have something to do with it. anyway. i done my water change a day late which was thursday and everything seems to be coming along great. my hammer looks heaklthy my polyps the little bit of xenia has trebbled my leather has grew alot. but my sunburst corals are not extended as much as they used to be. could any one tell me why this is. my hammer came on a sort of branch thing covered in coraline algea and since i have burried the branch in the stones the coraline algea has spread over some of the substrate it looks realy cool. i just want it to start growing up the back o my tank now. anyway. the main reason why i am here is because i want some fish ideas. i have decided not to go with clowns for the time being and was looking at firefish gobies. i quite like the look of them and may get one tomorrow along with a ricordea shroom if there are any. could anyone sugest any fish besides clowns and damsels. thanks
here is my tank from when it was set up 3 weeks ago to today.

My personal favorites are gobies and blennies. Wonderful personalities, and there are a ton of different types. Perhaps try a watchman or clown goby. How big is that tank of yours by the way?

As for your clowny, its possible he may have been ill when you bought him, but i've had plenty of fish which didn't eat for their first week in the tank.

EDIT: reread your post and it says your tank's only been up for a few weeks. What are your water params at?

we told you not to go for clowns, but it could have had a disease, but my money isnt on it.

go for a goby or a fire fish, something like that.

water parameters where all fine before the clown died and after i done the water change i waited a day tested again and they where fine again. the tank is a river reef interpet 50. been reading up and found a coral called the trumpet coral which is the same as the candy cane coral. on live aquaria it says these are hardy species. would this be a good addition or should i stick with the ricordea.

so stick with the ric and shrooms. would it be ok for me to get another leather. i dont want no more polyps i dont want any xenia as the stuff i have is spreading like mad is there any colourful easy to keep corals what i could put in my tank at this stage.

i wouldnt add anything else, unless you plan on fragging what you have.

keep in mind that some corals can sting such as the hammer. and the zoanthids

im back i got a firefish. it was a wild one from the indian ocean i think thats what it said anyways. i will post some pics later

if its wild caught, make sure you look after it well, these things will drop like flys being wild caught if you happen to do something wrong.

is it red or purple?

Getting it to feed is going to be the most difficult part, did you ask to see it feed in the shop before you purchased it?

You will also need to keep you water tests bang on.

red. no i didnt ask to see it feed but he has a big belly ful of food. will let you know how he gets on. i was nearly drawn to a pink scooter blenny which i realy wanted. he will probably be my next and last fish. i also seen some black slugs which looked pretty cool. i have no knowledge on them what so ever. is it worth getting them or are they too hard to look after

Also in the future ask about tank bred fish as well. We need to buy tank bred fish where we can to slow and eventually hault the capture of wild fish.

Regards

ok will do. he has settled in very well swimming all around the tank and in and out of LR. He is eating little copeods what go past him which is a good sogn. i will try him on a tiny bit of brine later to see if he eats it. would it be ok for me to add a clown goby, a yellow gobie or a pink scooter blenny.
thanks

yes he is eating brine. i thought it would be much harder but he just chompped it up. however he never went up to the surface to get it he waited outside his dart hole for the brine to go past him haha. sneeky bugger. post some pics soon
