Last night, I looked in the tank and saw hudreds of tiny things swimming.
I got the lights on and saw them, they seemed like shrimp babies, but i have no shrimp?
I put a couple in a tub as i knew they would be gone by morning which they have

Any ideas??

Ooh I wish I'd thought of catching some! I've had 2 lots of baby shrimp now. Are you sure theres not a hitchhiker shrimp? I got a peppermint for free in some rock!

hermit crab young

unfortunately the chances of the them surviving to adulthood is next to zero

im not sure they were just floating in the flow? i guess it could be
the ones in the tub are alive, but i know i wont be able to raise them

they are born free swimming so that sounds about right

if you can keep them out of the main tank and find some tiny shells you never know

Probably not tbh, ask donya though as she knows vast amounts about crabs and inverts.

I read an article a few days ago that hermits have been known to spawn successfully in captivity and reproduce however the article wa vague and it was the first I heard of it.

I concur with asking Donya!

...wait what? "Spawn" as in just the event or has someone actually got a captive generation? If it's a captive generation that'll be the very first I've ever heard of one.

Yeh I think it said they have been known to reproduce and the went into details about how they don't use shells until they've grown enough. I'll find the article and double check!

You know what I'm like, I prob misread but I have a couple of mags and I'll take a look. :) I think it was ultra marine as they had a big section on hermits this month.
