Hi, so I have been having a nitrite spike since about 2 weeks ago, my sand had turned black and everything was a mess. After digging out all the sand and putting fresh ones it spikes to about 0.25 now, so it's come down drastically. Anyway a few members suggested snails to keep the sand turned. I got one from dobbies but at £4.99 each they aren't cheap.
It had on the description tiger snail so here he is. He is the biggest one.

Then I went online and ordered some and they arrived this morning. 5 red ramshorn snails and 5 malaysian trumpet snails. They are so tiny I was so scared to pick them up out the container in case I squashed them but here are some pics of them.

Is there anything special I need to get for them? I have never had snails before and just wanted to know if there was anything to look out for.
Thanks

just make sure you put in extra food for them :) (algae wafers, melon, cucumber etc).

melon and cucumber? oooh I would love to see them on that! Just cut a piece off and drop it in?
I have algae wafers for the cories-poor things don't get a look in, they get devoured by the fish

Yup, you'll need to weigh it down (I used to use plant weights or a chop stick (plastic)). My snails loved honeydew melon (thats the only melon I've tried) as it's often on offer and on sale in small portions :).

Ohhh, i like the trumpets :good:

Thanks, there are 5 in total, I love the intricate patterns on the shells.

That's so cute! Yeah they always have melon portions reduced for end of day at most places so I will need to get some and see if they eat it.
I am new to snails and don't know much about them so excuse me for being thick but do the shells grow as they do? I was under the impression that they move from shell to shell

Yea their shells grow as they do.

Hermit crabs move from shell to shell not snails :)

Don't worry about the questions, thats what the forum is here for :)

That's good then, the ramshorns are quite active. I see them a lot during the day, and I look and think they are getting bigger, obviously they must be!
