Hi guys,

I've got a silver arowana and he is about 20cm long. I woke up and noticed that he has a small bite mark on him. A piece of the skin ripped off and and the white flesh is revealed. Will he be able to grow this back? Is there anything I can do or feed him to help him heal faster? I've been told to add rock salt into my tank to help him recover faster, is this true? Please help me save me baby!!!!

Salt depends on what fish ur keeping.

If the bite looks rearly bad, goto a vet, and you may be able to get antibiotic's to add to it's food, As long as you only treat the Arow and not all the fish the vet should let u have it.

Also this dose depend in the country your in and how well u know ur vet.

I have no problems in the UK.

What else is in the tank? Bites usually heal up on their own or with a little help from some melafix but if the fish is going to be under constant attack then things are just going to get worse.

I've got 3 red parrots, 2 frontosa, 2 severums, 3 blue dolphins and 4 clown loach in my tank. Ever since the biting incident I've been keeping a good eye on the arowana, and everyone leaves him alone now. I think it was because he was new to the tank. So would it be a good idea to add the salt?

Well, I was told that salt might not be good to clown loaches, since they don't have scales.
I will put the wounded arowana in a hospital tank, treat it with antibiotics to avoid infections.
You may add the salt in the separate tank if you want.
In about 10 days, the wound shouls heal, and new skin or scale will come out.
I have 2 silver arowanas(20" each), 3 red perrots(5" each) and 7 clown loaches(5" each) in one big tank.
All the fishes were babies when I got them, they get along very very well.

Im assuming this tank is absolutely massive, whith all those fish in it. Also stating they get along "very very well" isnt true if your Arrowana has a bite, skin missing and flesh exposed is it ;)

DarkEntity, how can you "assuming" my tank is massive based only on my two lines description?
I'm here just trying to help, OK. :hey:
Silver arowana is the gentlest kind in the aro world. Just like humen, silver aro will not attact other fishes that were raised together. Of course, those fishes must be larger then aro's mouth in all times and they must also be faster swimmers.

Well they are all living in a 6X2X2 foot tank. The silver arowana has been in there for 2 weeks now and all the other fish are leaving him alone now. The wound is slowly healing. I think in time it will be ok. Thanks for everyones advise.

Hey linyun49,

How did you get your two silver arowana to get along in the same tank? How big is your tank? I'm really interested in getting another silver arowana, but I've been told that it's too much trouble and that they will end up fighting with each other.

Hi, tinytonez,

I bought the 2 aros at the same time when they are about 7". All of the fishes mentioned in my post are raised in the same tank when they were young, no new comers no lost. I think that's why they all get along very well, I never see they fight with each other. The aros take uper part, parrots in the middle and the clowns saty in the bottom. Currently, they are in my 100G (60"x21"Hx18"D) glass tank. I already bought another 150G tank (72"x20"Hx24"D) for these guys so the aros can turn around easily.

Silver aro is the gentlest specie in the aro world. If you want buy another silver aro, buy a similar size one. They might fight for the first couple days or weeks, but they will make peace eventualy. Aro can jump very high, especially when they're fighting, so add some weight to your tank cover to prevent that.
