hi every 1

just recently i noticed that my red beta has little white spots on its body and all over its tail.
his tail has what looks like white fuzz or fluffy stuff on the end [it kinda looks like the fuzz that surrounds fish food when it goes off] - any way, he hasnt been eating much at all lately... and didn't eat anything this morning and has just been floating at the top of the vase.....
is there any diagnoses?? can anyone help??? :shout:

thanks
tisha :good:

I'm not entirely sure but it sounds like Ich.
What size tank is he in and are there any other fish in with him?

Sounds like either ich or columnaris because of the fluffy stuff.

How long has the tank been running?
How long have you had him?
What size is his tank?
What other tankmates are with him?

Do the spots look like sprinkles of salt.

he is in a large vase with one of those 'peace' plants in the top. takes approx 4-5 litres. i used to have a small bristle nose catfish in there until the catfihs died. but i cleaned out the vase and changed the water ect...
had a look at the link wilder sent, and it looks like the white spot picture shown........only alot more....??...??
can i fix him if he doesn't die before i can ge to him?? :shout:

it could be fin rot? my fighter had this and it can be treated very easly, as can white spot (ich). look up fish medecines, the products describe what problems they cure.

Finrot is common on top of whitespot.
Turn temp up to 30, add med, remove black carbon, increase aeration as the high temp and med will reduce 02 in the water.
Good luck.

i dont actually have a filter in the vase....so do you think i should put a heater in [to raise temp]??
i have heard that white spot on gold fish can be cured with a course of dilute salty water...would this work with my beta??

i really hope you have air pump, heater and filter in there..
An air pump isn't needed with a fighter as they prefer still water. A filter also isn't needed if regular water changes are done.

lfox - I hope he makes a full recovery. If he does then I wouldn't advise keeping anything else with him as the vase isn't big enough. Once treatment has finished, keep temperature at about 27C. Good luck. :good:

thankyou very much to all (esp. stang1 and wilder who gave me very helpful information about my sick beta, seth. :good:

i'm keeping very close eye on him, have raised the temp of the water, cleaned the water and remove the plant and rocks...

thanks again and i'll keep you posted.

You will need some movement in the tank as med reduce 02.
