My lima Shovelnose has always been a greedy git, when I first got him, I had 3 4"-5" Bala sharks in there with him, and he ate all of them! I replaced the Balas with bigger ones, one of which is about 10" and the other around 7", I only had 2 as my LFS ran out of big balas, and I didn't want to spend money on a fish I knew was going to get eaten.
Anyway, I figured at that size they'd be safe from the shovelnose, but I found out this morning, that I was wrong!! I woke up to see he had a massive belly, and I hadn't fed him last night, so wondering what he'd eaten I checked all the fish and couldn't find the 7" bala anywhere!! Greed B****** had eaten it!
Thats gotta be a record; the Bala was almost half the length of the lima!
I don't think I'll be getting any more balas now as he's only going to eat them!! Funny thing is he never bothers the Clown Loaches who are much smaller than the balas are, they never have any scratches or signs of struggle whereas the 7" bala had that quite often. I think I'll replace them with more eartheater cichlids of one type or another.
