Which Red Eyed Puffer did you get? There are about 4 species with Red Eyes that are mis named by stores as "Red Eyed Puffers" - A Picture would be the best ID Method. Possible Red Eyes are: Carinotetraodon borneensis, Carinotetraodon Salivator, Carinotetraodon irrubesco and crazy as this is ive seen Tetraodon abei labelled as a Red Eye....

Also im assuming the tank was fully cycled as Puffers are very sensitive to Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate etc

the tank is spot on! was cycled until ready with some glowlight tetra which have now been removed! its a Carinotetraodon salivator i think and a female, will try and get a photo when i can get the digi cam! but shes too shy n wont stay still anyway

Females are usually far more skittish that males, mine definately was and even the ones ive seen in shops are the same.

My avatar image is a Carinotatraodon Salivator Male, the females stripes run nose to tail, the exact opposite from the male whose are vertiacal

when did u get her, maybe shes just nervous cause shes in a new habitat. is she in an area where alot of people pass by? and dont make any sudden movements as they will get very scared

My golden pufferfish was the same at first he hardly ate and hid, until I started feeding him bits of frozen prawn. Now he darts up and down the front of the tank when he sees me.

did you give the prawn frozen? or de-frozt it first? had it about a week and a half now! re-arranged the tank today and she seems alot happier now :good:

good to hear that! defrost it please. rock solid prawns wont make puffers happy

Im still waiting for Pics of this Puffer...

does anyone know how long it will take for her to get to full sizeby the way?

without knowing a definate ID and its current size, its hard to say.

Its normal for puffers to be very nervous when first purchased, does the tank have plenty of hiding places and decor? As unusual as it may sound, the more hiding places you have, the more the fish will come out as it will feel more comfortable and secure.

It shouldnt be too long before your puffer associates you with food and greets you at the tank.
