Hi, guys!

Just returned home to Sweden after a 5 month trip to Thailand and Singapore!
I once again managed to "smuggle" some fightingfish with me back home!
I just had a pair of "Red Dragons" spawning 2 days ago, and I made a little video of that event!
Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm4kNWaRS7o

Hope you enjoy! :D

Very nice video. I have never seen betta's spawning and was looking forward to watching them when mine were older and started to do so. Very pretty ones too.

They are a really beautiful pair  and great video........thanks so much for sharing with us. He's built a really good thick nest.......do you put anything in for the male to build under or has he made it just on the surface?

No, I didn't put anything in there!
Usually I will use some floating plants, but I just returned home from my holidays last friday, and haven't had time yet to buy some plants! :/
The fish beat me to it! :p
All 3 pairs of bettas, also got a pair of "Black Dragons" and a another pair in a new color, green body and multicolored fins, has spawned since I got home! :)
By the way the fryes hatched today, so the male is pretty busy keeping them from falling out of the nest!
For the next spawning I'll keep them in a bigger and cleaner glass aquarium, so I'll be able to get some nice still pictures as well!

Congrats on the fry hatching :good: I wish my lot would build nests like that but they seem to lose interest after a while  The last spawn, we had 3 different things for the male to build under and he spent the whole time moving the eggs and then the fry around from one to the other....I think about 7 moves in total

Good luck with them and look forward to more piccies......btw watch out for Guppy-Man.....he would give his right arm for one of those Dragons at the moment :hey:

Hi, again!
Just an update.
Here's a picture of the happy father guarding some of his 4 days old babies hanging on to the glass under the nest!
I think they will be swimming around freely by tomorrow.

That's a super pic :good: :good: Looks like he's being a great Dad. Will you take him out once they are free swimming or do you leave Dad in for longer?

Thanks for the comments!
I'll take him out of there as soon as the fryes are free-swimming and starts to spread out, usually the males looses interest as well by that state!
Only problem now is food for the young ones!
I started an infusoria cultivation with dried banana peel a week ago, but it still doesn't show any plankton swimming around yet, and the shops are closed for a couple of days as well because of holidays, so I can't buy any Liquifry until tomorrow, maybe I'll try to give them some boiled egg-yolk!
First couple of weeks are always most critical, because they are still too small to take Artemia-naupli!

I've heard egg yolk is really good but have yet to try it. I hate the first couple of weeks....it's such a fine balance trying to keep as many as possible alive.

How do you make the infusoria with banana peel?

Wow. *taking notes*

Amazing video and great to hear things are working out so far. Would you be selling any of the fry to people on these forums?....... the kind that live in the US........ and go by the name of ReMz?

:p

;)

I just use some old aquarium water, or even better some natural water from some stagnant pond, and put it in a glass jar together with a dried blackened banana peel.
Put the jar in a sunny warm place.
After about 1,5-2 weeks the water will clear up a bit and you can see white clouds of infusoria (Paramecium), that you just suck up with a pipett or thin airhose and drop into the fryes tank a couple of times a day. Perfect to feed newly hatched fryes with for the first couple of weeks, until they are big enough to take newly hatched Artemia!

Would be cool if it was possible, but I live in Sweden and when it's time to sell the fish in december the weather will be too cold to send them by mail!
Besides I don't know if it is legally possible to do it, don't you need permits and veterinarian inspection before you can import into the US? :shifty:
Southern US has a warmer clima as well, which means that some unwanted fishspecies (like Snakeheads) can survive and propagate in the wild, disturbing the natural balance!
US authorities are more likely to check all incoming mail I suspect, and the laws probably are quite harsh if you get caught!

Here's some new pictures of my pair!
I just removed the male from his brood today.
