Looking damn handsome in there! Wait till that coraline covers the rest of the rock.

what salt are you using?
have you ever used any calcium additives before?
do you have a PO4 binder? some tests however will always show a little PO4 from what ive noticed....
Ter

Im using Instant Ocean. Im not using a PO4 binder just rowaphos unless that is a binder lol. I have not used any calcium additive before.

Look good mark, love the brain. Tbh Ter ive used istant ocean and now reef crystals and never had to dose calcium.

Hi mark...looks good so far. If I recall, normal mag levels start at about 1400-1500. I use ReefCrystals which reportedly has good Mg in it. Your corals look OK. As you know from your research, brains, prefer a sandy bottom. When they open, their fleshy body can get torn or injured on sharp edges on the LR, therefore, sandy bottoms if possible for them. They do not prefer high flow either. At night, they do have tentacles and benefit from feeding them. Nicely done. SH

Thanks ill be picking up some zoo`s tomorrow although from what I have read worried about handling them and also be picking up a hammer coral.

Yer i read that too and 1st ones i had gloves on, but for some reason ive never been stung by my corals. I only got hit my my tang when trying to catch him rnd a m8s lol. But id advise gloves to be worn for procaution.

Ah the calc, alk, mg balance :) So much fun to deal with

Here in the States we have two options for raising magnesium. First is with a not so common snow removal "salt" for driveways. Some of these chemicals are magnesium chloride (although most are calcium chloride), and when mixed with water make an excellent solution to add magnesium. I'm not sure if you guys use road "salts" there or if you do what kinds are used, but when you live in the snowbelt of Buffalo, you learn quick where to find some...

Our other common choice which is readily available is "Epsom Salts" (magnesium sulfate) which is used in some of our mother's medical remedies if you know what I mean. It does have some true medical uses though and is commonly found in supermarkets or drugstores around here. Again, not sure if you could find some, but worth a shot looking. Again, mixed with water to near saturation and dosed slowly to the aquarium.
