:rip: One of my Ram's is dead :-(

At the moment I'm not sure if it was white spot or some kind of fungus,

I went away for 5 days and asked my brother to put in one small bottom feeder tablet per day (which he did) as the normal fishes usually eat it too.

When I got back home I could see these white specks floating around the tank and the Rams were covered in them

I started treating immediately with white spot meds and the specks dissapeared within a day. However the spots on the Rams got bigger and bigger (ie like almost the size of their eyes) I do weekly water changes and my water params are Am 0, Ni 0, Na between 25-50 (this is the reason I do regular water changes - I live near lots of farms so that is the natural level of the nitrates.

This was 3 days ago - now one of them is dead :-( The other fish are not affected with the spots at all (nothing, ziltch, nil spots) which I thought was strange as I though ich would infect all the fish.

Anyone got any ideas on how I can save the other one before its too late.

Thanks

Lilly

That doesn't sound like ich. You wouldn't be able to see the ich in the water.

Also, ich won't increase in size on the fish. It will increase in the number of dots, like salt being sprinkled on the fish.

It almost sounds like some sort of fungus.

What is your temp at?

What other tankmates do they have?

I wish I could be of more help. :/

My temp is set for 76 but a do get a little fluctuation when the hot weather is here - usually tops out about 80.

My other little buddies are
3 x Blue Neon Rainbows (all fine - no spots at all and still feeding)
2 x Dwarf Otos (Both fine - no spots at all and still feeding)

I have noticed that the Ram is no longer eating. I'm gonna get a small hospital tank tonight and treat with anti fungal stuff. If there is no improvement by Sunday I will euthanise my other little buddie.

Is it worth also treating the tank he is in now with the anti fungal stuff?

Well I got home from work last night and my other little ram was already dead :-(

:rip: little buddie

actually ich has to come off of the fish to reproduce ...... thats why when u use some meds it says turn the heat up ...when you do this it quickins the breeding process of the ich and they come off the fish to breed and end up in the medicated water and poof :) sprry for your loss
