Hey guys

This will be my first time at properly selecting a tank as last time i just went to my LFS and went with what he told me

I am looking at corner units, due to lack of space anywhere else lol

The proposed setup is:

Trigon 190 + cabinet (expected price in £? i will haggle my lfs for this)
Tetratec ex700 or 1200 (again please recommend)
Some form of inline heater (you guessed it, i need a recommendation)
I want an easy to use Co2 injector with one of those things which goes green for safe levels of co2

Is the trigon easy to fit a external to as it doesnt have predrilled holes on the back?
What are the lights like that come with it? Im no plant growing expert but i want to be able to grow them to some extent :hyper:

Thanks

All recommendations lovingly accepted :good:

Hi,
Well if thats the space you've got then, the Trigon you've chosen will be the tank to fit as I sure you've measured an consulted with family members on that aspect.
For external filtration I would always recommend an Eheim the old type from the Classic range with double taps. size to suit your volume.
Hydor make your proposed IN-Line heater/stats that you require.
If you wish to kill two birds with the one stone then purchase an Eheim Thermofilter.
You may have to do a bit of modding to get the pipework in and out, check the hood/canopy out before you purchase.
For CO2 injetion I wouldn't mess about with a chemical reaction kit (yeast based) I would go with a full blown pressurised kit from the start. You dont need to lay out a lot these days for the basic kit.
Try JBL stuff they are pretty reasonable
Buy a basic set
JBL Proflora CO2 Set Profi 2
and a JBL PROFLORA CO2 pH Control 12 V add on unit.
You'll need a small grained gravel as a substrate. Not pea gravel (too open for plants) and not sand (compacts to tight around plant stems/roots) Go for a base of around 65mm
The first 30mm of your gravel remains unwashed, mix this with a good substrate additive such as JBL Florapol. Then cover this completely with a further 35mm of well washed fine gravel. This I found to be a very good substrate for the plants.
The lighting tubes I'm sure you can replace and again JBL do some proper spectral tubes for this purpose
Hope this was of some help

Hey

thanks for the reply its appreciated :)

The eheims are pretty expensive for what you get especially the thermostat one

As for the co2 unit, i suppose i shud have mentioned an initial budget but for now i shall struggle just for the tank and filter (student lol)

I was thinking start off with basics/just use E.I until i can afford.

Corner tanks, by virtue of their geometry, are difficult to get a lot of light into using traditional fluorescent lamps. To get value out of CO2 and EI you will need to consider how you are going to get your light.
