i have realised i have two pregnant platys but have set up a seperate tank as the other fish will eat the fry.

q1) can i put the two pregnant together?
q2) do i have to take out the platys after they have the fry?
q3) do i leave them in there will they eat each others?
q4) how long are they pregnant for?
q5) any particular things i have to do for them?

I'll answer some of it but can't mimd the rest.

The most likely dish to eat the fry are the mothers themselves :(
Keep them in the same tank as normal, switching them can abort their pregnanceys. Once they deliver move the fry to a new tank :D

The rest I'll leave to the livebearer fans ;)

Platys are generally permanently pregnant ;)

Aren't they the ones that even store sperm so will carry on giving birth for up to six months after they've been removed from the males?

Melanie, in your breeding tank include alot of plants, these just give the youngsters a few more hiding places once the mother releases them. You can place both females in the tank at once but make sure you remove the females once they have given birth or they will eat the young.
You can feed the babies on crushed flake foods or even special powdered foods for livebearers.
Id say it takes 3 to 4 weeks dependant on the size and maturity of the female platy to give birth.
Good Luck :D
