my pregnant platy

Looks like my pregnant platy gave birth last night. I found 3 fry hiding in the plants last night, but I haven't seen them since. She still looks fat and her belly is still square shaped. How long does the birth process go on for (I would think she'd be done by now but she definately doesn't look like it ...)?

It depends on the fish...

I had one female where it took a day to give birth.

Another female it only took about an hour.


Age, conditions, and how well she was fed also have to deal with it.


If I was you, if possible trap the babies you can see. And every hour or so, [try not to make yourself too noticeable] check on her again.
