i recently added a betta into my tank and within a few hours had taken on half the tank. i was advised to put him into his own bowl/tnak, but by the time ive gotten one sorted out he has settled in, and is now happily swimming around with the other fish. however his fins tooka bit of a hammering. do the fins recover, will it be fatal for him, or will he live a hppy life with poor finnage?

The fins will grow back.
Just be concerned about fin rot. Make sure you keep the water quality good, that might mean do more frequent water changes. Also feed him well and turn up the heat (if its not up too high already) this should help him recover faster.

You also might want to keep an eye on the other fish, if you notice that they are niping at him I'd suggest you put the betta in his own bowl.
Good luck
