I looked at one of my Firemouths this morning and he's not looking so good, he has what looks like a open wound (red patch) which I am concerned about and also a couple of big white blotches, 1 on his head and one down his back which I think is HITH. :-( What can I do to help?

get some melafix and raise your temp a little.

HITH= hole in the head... doesn't sound anything like that from what you described.

Is it a white cottony growth? If so, you can treat it with pimafix and when the white cottony growth is gone treat with melafix to heal the wounds. I just went through (still going through) healing a firemouth that got the stufing knocked out of him by convict parents.

There is one white spot on the forehead which doesn't sound like any of which you have described I'll try get a pic. the wound looks like it is clearing up but is still there, do you think this is the cause of fighting.

Also, I would like to know how fast Firemouths grow because when they grow too big mum will let me get a new tank for them I was thinking of moving The Golden firemouth, the 2 largest firemouths and the plec to the larger tank. Oh yeah the tank will be as big as it should be so what size tank?

Problem solved, the white spot is just scar tissue from fighting with shark, I saw them fighting real bad this morning and the firemouth got another spot.
