Well I last posted I had moved my bully of a platy out of the community tank because I caught her nipping at my already injured cory cat. Thought perhaps she was nipping him all along, causing his "sores". Now I'm thinking she was only picking on him because he had an exsisting condition. For the past 2 days I've seen the fluffy looking white stuff in his sore. Fungus right? Well I've been treating him for that for 5 days now. Even before I noticed the fluff. Last night was the last treatment. But he looks worse than he did when I started. I feel so bad for him. The fungus medicine says you can repeat the 5 day treatment after the first if you do a water change first. So I guess that's what I will do. I'm confused on how he even got it because I've read that it is caused by high ammonia or nitrites. My tank has neither. Is there anything else I can do for him? Am I doing the right thing? Thanks!

I am sorry about your cory! It sounds like you are doing the correct thing. If the platy was nipping the cory and caused it the injuries than the fungus may have occurred because the cory was already hurt. The nipping lowered its immune system which allowed the fungus to start. I think continuing the fungus treatment seems to be the best course of action. If you have activated carbon could that be taking the fungus medicine out of the water before it gets a chance to help the cory? Just a thought....

Hi, Sorry to hear about your cory, i think that one of the best things you can do for it, is to keep its home as clean as possible, so that no secoundary infection starts. Since corys spend most of thier time at the bottom, i would vaccuum the gravel every few days to keep it extra clean. Good luck and let us know how things are going for your little guy.

I'm afraid my little guy is not going to make it. He's swimmimg around in spirals right now. I just don't know what I can do for him. I also can't believe I am crying over a fish. I never knew getting into this hobby could be so emotinal. I have had so many difficulties with my tank, this being the worse. Funny thing is my hubby talked me into getting the cory's, they were my least favorite. Now I'm so attached to them I'd have a whole tank full if I had the room. This is just awful. I went to the Lfs right when I noticed his problem & they just said oh yea Ich... here's some medicine. I knew it wasn't Ich.... I wish I had figured it out sooner but the symptoms have been so strange & they change day to day. Once I started treating the fungus it seemed to get worse. I was getting ready to do a water change but I don't want to mess with the tank now... He's obviously freaked enough right now. I just wish he would go on & die if that's what he's going to do because he's making me so sad.
