My Plakats Have Spawned!

My plakats have just spawned & i have took the female out but how long do i leave the male in there for?
I just want to make sure so he doesnt eat them!!

I personally only left my male in for 4 days, by then the fry are free swimming and I didn't want him munching them. But other people leave dad in longer, it really depends on how much you trust the male

Yea, depends on the individual dad, most people will leave them in there for 4-7 days, but if i recall a member named yeeviabetta (i think she's still around) left her male in for a few weeks and he tended to the fry the entire time. more of a judgement call i suppose, 5 days would probably be your safest bet.

For the record, yeevia is on a different forum now...

I leave my male in however long I feel safe doing so. If he's still tending them after they're freeswimming, great. Once he starts to lose interest in them or I see him picking some off as a snack I separate him.

^^ Yup, it's all pretty much based on the dad, you have to keep an eye on it all... my CTPK dad does well with the fry, keeps an eye on them, does a good job of being a dad, he's still in with them and its been a week.

I can see lots of little tails hanging down from the nest today! a Few of them keep trying to swim off but the male is doing a good job catching them in his mouth & putting them back!! Its amazing when you see it happening for the fist time it doesnt seem real I will post some pics when they grow a little...

Awww that's wonderful. I'm doing my first spawn in the next few weeks with my green/white HM male and green/purple HM female. Am somewhat nervous!!

Im still a bit nervous just incase there is any problems . I wish you luck anyway when you try sounds like you will have some nice looking fry with the HM's.
