hi i done a water change yesturday and have just done a water test and pH is 7.6 is this ok, it usually is about 8.0--thanks --mel

depends on the type of fish u have in the tank

if u have africian cichlids 8.0 is idle for them
but if u have a normal tropical tank u would prob want a more neutral ph (7.0)

do u condition ur water before u put it in the tank?
if you have a normal tropical tank i would recommend a product called bullseye 7.0 it takes the chlorine, chloramine out of the water it also makes the waters ph around 7.0

7.6 is fine for most fish and PH is not a huge deal. The most important thing is that it doesn't fluctuate, so it is best not to mess with the PH. I have read a few treads where messing with the PH has caused disasters. You only have to worry if you what to keep sensitive species that live a very low ph (6-6.5). If you want to change your ph I suggest using natural things like peat moss and not the stuff in the bottles.
