I went to feed my fish tonight and found my Panda Cory upside down and dead :-( That was my Panda Cory I've had since last fall/winter. He was one of my favorites - 'cause I've had him so long and 'cause he's the only Panda Cory I've been able to keep alive for more than a few weeks or a month. I didn't notice anything wrong with him a few hours ago when I did a water change on the tank. Didn't see any signs of problems on him when I took him out, either. I have the tank temperature at 86-88* right now to try to kill off the ich, and I wonder if that didn't get to be too much for him. From what I recall, Panda Corys prefer water that's a little bit cooler. Any comments or ideas?

Thanks.

I'm sorry pamela i hate it when anything dies. :-(

Not sure if its the temperature I turned ours up when a fish had itch it didn't bother my cory.

Sorry To Hear That.... Poor Cory!

That temperature is too hot for most fish and though thats probally not what killed him it is quite dangerous!

I've said it before and got nothing but grief :D but IME experience pandas are sensitive to high temp. mine died when my heater malfunctioned, whereas the otehr fish survived.

Sorry to hear that. I'm not so sure if it was the temperature that killed him, although it might have been a contributing factor, if he's been weakened by disease. My 6 panda and 5? spotted coys live through 5 mos. of 88+ degree heat every summer. For the last 3 years, I've lost only one cory (yes, it was panda).

Long time ago, I did cure ich by raising temp (to 89F I think). All of my panda cories survived the two weeks periods of treatment.

Did you lower the water level to allow more gaseous exchanges? Higher the temp, less desolved O2, hence you want to create more surface disturbance. Bottom dwellers such as cories would suffer the most...

I did not lower the water level, but I did add an airstone to help create more surface agitation.

Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions that you've shared! I appreciate 'em!
