Here's my newest addition, Heinkel! :D
I had been debating on whether or not to get this guy/girl for several months, and I finally gave it. I'd prefer that he/she had a tail, for his/her own sake, but I'm happy to give him/her a home, anyway. He/she's getting along very well with my oscar, Aristotle, and my senegal bichir, Eligos.
He/she has been dyed, but it is quickly fading. The orange is natural, but there's a bit of pale blue still left on his/her back. My LFS owner is against selling dyed fish, but she'd go out of business in no time if she didn't. :(
On to the pics!:

What a cutey

He's Pretty,

I see what you Mean about the Elongated Shape, He Looks like he has Midas In Him from the Shape.

They're bred like that aren't they?
Cute... but it's a shame about being dyed and having no tail - fish realy shouldn't need to deal with that. It's good you're giving him/her a good home now though :)

if people didnt buy dyed fish it would stop the trade , theres a huge campaign going on trying to stop this trade from happening! ! :/

My buying this fish isn't going to encourage the dyed fish trade... otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. My LFS wasn't planning to reorder any more of them anyway.
And yeah, sylvia, being tailless is a mutation in blood parrots that some people are breeding for nowadays.
I really do wish this fish had a tail and whatnot, but it deserves a home, anyway... and besides, it's just so cute!

:) some people are tried and have bred parrots so that they do not have a tail :)

btw.. he's gorgeouussssss

hes awsome

you candefinitly see the midas in him

Thats no blood parrot but it is a deformed Midas Cichlid. Watch out they are highly agressive and shoudnt be housed with loachs or other small fish it will still hit the 14" mark.

Actually, it's a young blood parrot. My LFS owner and I are on very good terms, and I feel certain she wouldn't lie to me (especially knowing I don't usually like how blood parrots look, lol!) She said she has raised blood parrots before, and is always surprised by the way they change from what mine looks like now into their adult form. I'd actually be really happy if he did end up looking more like a midas... If he starts getting aggressive, I'll move the loaches, but at this point he hasn't bothered anything.
Edit: Actually, I've already observed a little change in him since I first saw him at the pet shop months ago... that bump on his nose is relatively new. I figure that will continue to grow until it reshapes his face like a blood parrot's.

Im on good terms with my LFS as well, but they try to lie to me to get me to buy things, im 110% for sure that is no blood parrot the marking are a Midas as well as the body and the head and mouth.

I'm backing up Vip on this one. That is not a Blood Parrot. It's a young Midas. It's not even close to being a deformed parrot. Do you see its coloration? The white base with orange blotches, thats no Blood Parrot coloration, its a Midas Coloration. Also, they don't always breed to get the fish to have no tails, they mostly just cut the tails right off. Congrats, you've just added to the dying of fish, and the inhumane 'torture'' of fish. :sly:

If I were you i would listen to Vip, he is very expiranced with aggressive cichlids, oh and, I've never heard of anybody being on good terms with their LFS owner, they are not one bit knowledgable about fish.
