Yup! Crazy as it sounds, it works as an ammonia source.

i always cycled with flake food or a brussel sprout before i had tanks to clone and worked fine took 3-4 weeks to cycle just keep an eye on the test results and change water accordingly

tank going to look great with fish in

using a dead prawn is a done thing (not that I'd do it personally)... but levels of ammonia produced are difficult to control.

it does speed up the process... however... adding in "cycle" or something like that what i would have recommended... perfect source of ammonia

erm, cycle does not contain ammonia as far as i'm aware... It supposedly contains 'beneficial bacteria', but unless the bottle is:

Fed air
drip fed ammonia
is refridgerated.

Then any supposed bacteria that went into the bottle would come out dead.

Snake-oil & hookum as far as I'm concerned.

To cycle a filter quikly, you add filter media from a mature filter.
