okay okay, excited!! so my girlfriend just bought me 5 apple snails!! but iv had a pretty bad experiences with them once ; (

i had 3 for about 2 years and then they started dieing, their shell was very weak so i believe the water wasnt rich in calcium. but as for food, those guys lived it up ; )

my question is... since they are new, what could i do reinforce there calcium intake from my main tank? iv heard of tums believe it or not but not too sure about that...and also how long do these guys live for? was 2 years their life expectancy?

Thank you for any help in advance!! will take pics ; )

Tums are fine think i have now hatched approx 1200+ apples to date and have no problems. 2-3 years for an apple is about right.

Whats your water stats, tank size

look at my snail posts/pics cant find any better looking goldens anywhere then mine  :good:

i will deff look at your post, esp with 1200 apple snails!! lol but this is my current stats...

Tank size 20gallon

water condition:
ph 6-7
amm 0
nitrate-0
nitrite- 20-40ppm

filter is a 1 year mature and i have slowly introduced fishs, (1 to 2 at a time at most)

hey i cant seem to find ur post/topic on the snails... if it wouldnt be too much to ask for, could you get me the links? i really want to see them ; ) thanks

Adults need 2.5G per snail so your about maxed out in that dep. Apple snails are very very easy to keep alive but keeping them tip top is very time consuming.

A ph of 6-7 is a bit wide of gap a ph of 6 is 10 times worse then a ph 7 for snails so i would try get a accurate reading so you know where your at. A ph of 6.5 and below you apples will have pit marks on their shell within 6 months and after a year if they live it will large holes exposing it to the flesh.
I didt have time to find posts but have added some pics so you see my tibe :good:
