Hi

I recently bought a queen from my lfs, i have had it about 2 weeks now and although i catch the odd glimse of it buried half under my bogwood, i have never actually seen it in full...cept when it was in the bag!! Is this normal, i have never seen it eat either..i have tried to catch the little blighter in the middle of the night but still cannot see it. Is this normal behaviour, i am testing all my water stats every other day and they are all perfect.

yes queen abaresques are very shy fish, and are nocturnal, and come out at night to feed. Thats just some reassurance for you, i dont really know what you can do about it because id quite like to know myself! You could always get a moonlight for the tank at night so you can see it when it does come out?

Don't worry Chardonnay, as geo7x said they can be very shy and only come out at night.
We have a Magnum Pleco and it's very rare to see him in the daytime. We've had him for about 4 months and up until about 3 weeks ago we never saw him in the day at all. He's now a little braver and pops out to say hello. :)

phew, thank goodness for that, i thought it was poorly. ..thanks for the reassurance any way...i will get a pic and post it if it kills me tho..

I actually dislike the fact that I can see mine 24/7. He constantly stays in one back corner of the tank or another, behind water onions/val bases. I've only seen him under the bogwood once. and that was for less than 5 minutes. and he was still fully revealed.

I honestly know a lot of you wish you could see your plecs more... but I'm somewhat uncomfortable being able to see mine 24/7.

He used to inhabbit slate caves 24/7, but after replacing slate with bogwood, this has happened, I guess he thinks he's hidden, and he's dug a little ditch....

at least I know where to toss my algea waffers now

i tried feeding algea wafers in her direction at night , but all the other greedy fish seem to eat it up before she can be bothered to move from her bogwood throne.....is there anything else i could try feeding her that the others may not eat? I have plants n thought that they might be nibbled but they havent.
