Hi guys, this is only my second post, just thought I'd share my new Zebra Pleco with you
Nice looking Hypancistrus. These guys like it warm- 27.0-30.0°C or 80.6-86°F.
Yes, i would say it shows usual markings for a juvenile L129, and if it is a L129 (pretty sure) then temperatures between 26-30C are about right.
Yes- L-129. I can only sex them reliable from underneath. The male and female vents look different. With hypans body type, odontile growth, head shape may provide good glues but I can recount numerous stories from some expert folks having been fooled. Even behavior can be a better indication of sex.
The last time I bought a couple of wc zebra plecos (l-046) I was trying to get two males. While they were in Q I noticed one was always in one of the caves and the other was almost always not. That behavior made me very suspicious as males claim caves while females only use them as needed. When vented, sure enough one was indeed a female.
I forgave the seller for improperly sexing them.
