I thought I'd post a couple of pics of my new dog Nike (yep, like the brand  ). He was free to a good home and is 8 years old. One pic is him at about 1 year and the other at 18 months old, both from shows he was in. He has won lots of awards and was named Victorian champion at one time.

The people who owned him initially started to not take care of him properly and he got a prostate infection which caused him to go sterile (he was also very haggard looking and was begining to show signs of getting bad teeth due to poor diet - this was caught early enough and his chompers are all fine now). He was later brought to be bred by the woman I got him from, only to be found she had been ripped off. She nursed him back to health (at alot of expense to herself) and advertised him as free to good home, at which time I took him.

I haven't owned a husky in a couple of years now (since my last was stolen) and had been thinking about getting another one for a while. He is a beautiful dog and a dream to own and I love taking him for a walk every day. I had been thinking about getting a pup but I couldn't pass this fella up due to his good nature and the rough times he has had. I would hate to have seen him end up in another bad owner's hands rather than getting the love and good life me and Kel can provide him (not that the person we got him from would do that intentionally, but there are some rogues out there). Alot of people enquired about him only to loose interest due to his sterility but that was fine with us. I'd love to breed huskies one day as I love the breed, but for now a pet was all I was looking for and we got a real gem.

When I get around to it I'll put some new pics up of him, until then, these two will have to do

Wow, he is gorgeous. I've always had a soft spot for them. Sad to hear he'd been neglected. Some people are just so cruel :/

I am just glad he isn't being mistreated anymore, he is a great dog and doesn't deserve it (not that any animal does imo). I know he is happy here because he gets really excited whenever one of us goes outside, bouncing around like a pup and rolling over to get his stomach scratched (something I personally think he has never had before).

I took him across a main road for the first time today when I walked him. It was pretty busy on the road and he went fine. I had been wondering how he would go because he is a bit of a zigzagger when he is walked (nowhere near as bad as alot of huskies, but still loves to stop and sniff everything, take a pitstop at every blade of grass to leave his mark and can pull on the lead a little to achieve these ends  ) but he was fine, he waited when he was told and didn't dawdle across the road.

Yesterday night when I walked him was a completely different matter. We came around the corner of a block and practically ran head on with some stupid idiot walking her dog without it's lead on. She had a little girl with her and the lead in her hand instead of on the dog, mind you it was on a busy main road too. Needless to say, Nike and the other dog stared each other down for the whole of two seconds before going at it (being an ex stud dog, he is very intolerant of other male dogs). Luckily Kelly had a good hold of the lead and I grabbed it and dragged him away far enough that the other dog didn't pursue us (just as well as I was keeping myself between the pair of them). Noone was hurt, but it could have gone alot worse if I hadn't have seperated them. The other dog went for Nike's shoulder which is furry enough to stop him getting hurt bad but Nike went straight for the throat and the dog only had short fur, if he had've gotten a good, strong hold he would have done some damage. From now on I will be wary of walking him near that corner in case the stupid twit decides to walk her dog without a lead on again (honestly, some people never learn). It's sad that a handful of complete twits give the majority of dog owners (and their dogs) a bad name.

I have a Husky, (Kara) and they are a dream dog to own if you have the time and patience. I think you were very lucky to recieve him "free to a good home" as Huskies are pretty well sought after. :good: Congrats! Good to see he found someone who cares! :)

He is not fixed yet but will be soon, not for the agression towards other male dogs but more because of his infection (agression isn't a problem as long as I don't bump into a wanker with their dog off a lead again  he is fine around other male dogs as long as they are on leads and/or given a wide berth, but that particular one was pretty much thrust straight in his face as we turned the corner. There was a hedge to the corner that we couldn't see past and turned the corner at practically the same time as they did). There is a chance the prostrate infection could come back and I don't want him to get that again, poor bugger, so as soon as I save the money for the op he will be taking a trip to the vet and getting the snip. He will probably be pissed at us for a few weeks or so but it's the best thing for him as he could get really sick or die if he caught it again and it's possible his lifespan could be shortened too the vet said.

As for being lucky, I almost didn't get him. The lady I got him off had rehomed another husky (female) a few years ago and had contacted them a few days before I rang about him and a few hours after I took him home they showed up at her house to collect him.I'm glad I beat them to the jump though, he is an awesome dog and loves it here.

After talking to the previous owner again, I realised he wasn't Victorian champion a few years ago, he was named Australian champion. It's a pity about his sterility because the previous owner was going to breed him with one of her other dogs and the pups would have been something else as both parents are of really good lineage. On the other hand though I am glad to have him and if he wasn't sterile he'd still be at her house instead of here, but it's still a pity they didn't have one litter of pups.

my sister breeds them, she currently has one ***** "Loki" and another "storm" storm was neglected as a pup she got her off another breeder for free as she broke her lega as a pup and so cant be bred from so my sis rescued her,

both dogs are a bit gorgeous, and when Miss wiggles and i get a house big enough were having one of the pups off her

That is great that your sister took her. There are so many huskies out there who aren't looked after properly because people don't have the time/knowledge/moral fibre/etc to care for them the way they should be. Alot who own them think they can just buy one, stick it in a yard by itself, add food and bingo! Instant pet dog. Many owners don't realise the amount of time you need to spend playing with them, walking them, etc to ensure that both owner and dog are happy, healthy and not frustrated with each other.
