I went to my LFS to buy some more blood worms and found that one of the girls that was there three weeks ago, was still there. She looked miserable and was imprisoned in a half quart class next to a giant VT male who was flaring and bumping against the glass insanely. She was not moving, only coming to the surface every once and a while for air then went back to laying on the bottom, fins all bunched. I asked one of the employees if they thought she was sick because she hadn't been bought in three weeks. They said no but they were going to flush her if she wasn't going to be bought in the next three days. So.. feeling bad for the poor girl I bought her. She's now in a much larger tank and swimming around happily, regaining color. She isn't in the best condition I admit but still, she's a cutie. Anyone know what type she might be? I was thinking a VT/CT maybe.

Poor little lady. Sexual harrassment is what that was! I hope she does well for you.

Christ, what is WRONG with people these days?! :X
Anyway, she has a very cute little face . Kinda unusual shaped fins... you're probably right about her being a veil combtail.

:grr: Why do places say they'll flush em. Maybe they know you love fishies and get the sympathy sale (as in making you feel bad so you'll buy it). Why can there be some sort of policy that if a fish dies in so many days or is unwell for a few weeks they can send em back to the wholesaler and get replacements thus saving money. Because the wholesaler must get them cheaper than what they are selling em

Exactly..so you will buy them. They aren't going to actually flush a perfectly healthy fish. That's losing money and most stores won't even euthanize a fish, because of the fact they'll lose some money.

They just tell you that imply to get you to buy them.

It's a shame she was so stressed. But she looks wonderful now. And is gorgeous.

She looked dead in her tank at the fish store. She had been there for three weeks and said they needed to get rid of her because they needed more room for the next shipment of VT and CT's coming in, so since she was pretty much dead they were going to flush her. :/

She is very much alive now though! :D

Why would a girl betta get stressed about a male betta admiring her? Opps I guess that was a stupid question since she must have been tired of it.

He was huge. Like 3 inches long with even longer fins. I swear he was going to tip the thing over each time he head butted the glass. I'd be tired of that real fast if I was a betta fem. :p

Bless her, i'm thinking of getting some female betta's when my tetra die out, she lovely, a lovely beautiful colour.

Careful not to assume that all people have hearts... some places actually will flush them without a second thought. If a fish is not selling and the shop needs the space, some places will just flush them because "they would die anyway". My local Walmart used to do this with their bettas all the time. Whenever they got a large shipment of bettas in all the unsold females from the previous week or two would magically disappear overnight. We're not talking just one or two, I mean dozens. They'd also flush healthy fish just because their water was dirty which made them lethargic and sickly... whose fault is that?? :X
These places buy fish for pennies on the dollar; a lot of times it's cheaper to just get rid of a fish that isn't selling than it is to keep it alive and care for it until it is sold.
