My New Fry Tank

It's got 1 baby molly in just now. It's not cycled.

Keeping a close eye on ammonia levels just in case.

I deliberately didn't have plants to save on the expense of buying lights. I think there are plenty hiding places in the bridge and pebbles.

Also, does anyone have experience of keeping fry in an uncycled tank. I'm trying it for the first time.

Get some ammonia pads, and some ammo-lock, just incase ammonia levels rise. Make sure you are doing tests every day just to keep track.

No point really. Theres only 1 molly which is only about 1/4" long. Any bacteria on the sponge would soon just die off.

Not true. A small amount of bacteria would stay. Just enough to survive off what the baby molly is producing. Everything else would die off though.

nah. I wouldn't do it unless you really wanted to make sure he survived. Maybe do it for the next batch.


I bet the amount of Ammonia being produced by him is so miniscule it can't even be picked up by your tests It won't cause a problem.

Heather, the tank is 12" x 8" x 8" (13 litres, 3 gallons) and the heater came from Pets @ home.
