Hi guys,

My tank is now fully stocked. I went to look around my LFS today and just couldn't leave without a Bristlenose.

I have taken a photo of him so you can ID him and confirm that he is actually a BN and not a Common. The LFS owner reassured me that he was because I wanted a young one instead of a more developed one :)

He doesn't have any Bristles on his nose at the moment but I'm guessing they will develop with time as he is only about 1.5-2 inches long.

This brings my stocking to 2 Dwarf Gouramis, 4 Panda Corydoras, 1 BN Plecostomus and 2 Filter Shrimp.

Thanks,

O and will my BN plec need Algae Wafers or can he eat Tetra Tabimin?

to me, he looks like a small version of my common plec which was also sold to me as a BN a few years ago.

Dont take my word for it though, someone with more Plec experience should be along soon

Looks like it could be a BN but not a common BN. Ive only ever seen bns with white tips to there ins so that makes me think it is. Could be a Ancistrus tamboensis but im not 100% sure

Looks like a rubber lip pleco (aka bulldog pleco). If you're unsure go to planetcatfish.com and look at their Cat-E-Log to find out

Post this in the specific section on Catfish/plecos for your answer. To give you some assurance, looks exactly like my male BN. But I'm not claiming to be a pleco expert. :good:

I think his colouring is consistant with most BN plecs but that is nothing to go on when identifying this fish.

Will have to wait and see I think.

Ok thanks, well he said that he was breeding a couple out back and there were 20+ babies in the same tank. He is a reputable guy so I guess it is a BN.

You should be able to sex it ones it gets to about 2" not including tail. If it does get any bristles then you will no for sure its a BN.

Ok I will have to wait and see then. He is literally the size of my young Panda Corydoras so it might be a while before he grows any Bristles!

Yeah deffo not a Common.
Nice little Catfish you got yourself! :good:

James.

It's a common bristlenose :good:

Thanks everyone for the input, it's put to rest my worries of him growing into a 2 foot long monster!
I ordered some Algae Wafer tablets, Tetra PlecoWafers. Just wondering if I should drop one in every other day like I do with my Corydoras Tabimin.
