here are pics of my new boy, deuce. the lfs said he's a doubletail, or split tail, can't remember which. anyway, isn't he adorable? :D he's in an eclipse 2 by himself but will soon have an adf or 2 for company.

to my non-expert eyes, he looks like a double tail b/c he has a thicker body and wider dorsal fin (along with the 2 lobes of his caudal)...but hopefully we can get some one else to confirm this!!

he looks great!! :D

I think it might be a split tail
I'm not 100% sure but I think that true dt's have a full split in the tail

The first pic and the last pic is the exact color my jasper turns right after a water change, from the transportation and change in environment. It's kinda stressful for him. :D - my guess is those taken right after he was put into the tank - you can kinda see the horizontal stress bars.

Jasper's natural color is bright blue and red, but he turns that orange color w/stripes. the first time he did that it scared the bajeezus outta me!

he he, yeah it was taken as soon as he was put in the tank. the middle one was also, but it's with the tank light not on. the other 2 are with the tank light on.

i was really surprised at his color change. when i bought him at the lfs he was almost black with irridescent colors on the tips of his fins. then when i put him in the tank he was the brownish color with little or no irridescence. i was upset until i realized that he was pale because of stress. now that he's been in for awhile his color is back to being dark with lovely irridescent tips.

has anyone decided if he's a true split tail or not. even if he's not he's beautiful :)

My male betta has that black finnage on his tail and I was told it was fin rot. That is exactly what Angus's black stuff looks like. :*)

Beautiful betta though.

Hmm...
in looking at the photos now, it does look like it might be the start of some rotting, since it goes all the way around like that.

But i'm not 100% positive though...

You are 100% correct, the dorsal is a dead giveaway.

He looks good, I think the black is just his coloration.

i hope it's not fin rot! i don't think so, though. it doesn't look like it to me. but i can add melafix to his tank just in case.

i'll try to take some better pics now that's he settled in & see what everyone thinks.

It's not finrot. Don't add medication just because there "might be" something going on. I would be shocked if it's anything but his coloration.

i don't think melafix is actually a med, more of a natural remedy, right? but anyhow, i haven't added it as i'm still at the office. i'll look at deuce closer tonight & if it looks like rot i will add the melafix. if not, i'll leave him as is.
