ok, a few hours, i purchased the fish i awlays wanted, a double finned betta. there was only one, i knew something was wrong with his fins, but he was so cute and adorable, i had to get him anyways. well, when i got home, i examined his fins, and it looks like he was in a fight, half of his top fin was ripped off  , i really didn't panic, i knew to come here  . well, some of his other fins r ripped too. but those r less damaged, although sorta severly. other than that, he's fine. he swims like a normal betta, flares* (go to the * at the bottom at the page, i have a pretty funny story, but read the rest of this post first!), and eats. i can not get a good picture of him, but i'll do my best to describe him, he's a dark purple, that starts at the head and goes in to a violet at the center at his body. then twords the end, he's a light purple. the very place where his fins start is a sparkly bule. then, the fins r red. after that, at the end of the fins, they are white. i can tell he's a double finned betta, but u can't tell at the condition he's in. okay, so here's my question, is there anything that can grow his fins back?

*when i got my first betta, he was a walmart buy. so i had him for a few years. then he died. but, walmart was wrong! he was a she! i realized this after these few things: never flared once, fins never got long.

Good news - his fins should, and most likely will, grow back with some sparkly clean water and if you can, some aquarium salt. Doc Wellfish's salt is really good stuff. Just a pinch after water changing time will work wonders.

Keep an eye on him for signs of infection - really dark or black edges of fins, red ends of fins, red streaks on fins, etc. You should start to see some clear growth on the ends of his fins within a few days. After a while, the fins will then change from the clear growth to normal coloration.

Good luck, and your new find sounds beautiful!

I need to buy some salt for my bettas but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Thanks BettaMomma for helping to clear up my confusion!
