Awwwww they look loverly sam, although looks like you have 3 males in that pic. but im sure they will work out to be great fun to keep!

weve had so much fun feeding ours, their still on the hand feeding through a pipet routine at the mo, their just such fussy lil eaters!!

On that picture you can simply not tell if they're male or female :p You cant see the eyes for the wrinkels, and you cant see the stomachs for a line. So I'd love to know how you made that assumption

I do agree that it's a great photo and that the dwarfs are really really cute! :D

good pic

I am teetering between keeping puffers or trying to breed apistos

question though, does that feeder have a specific name... I think I would like to have one.

Hi,

Not sure that it has a specific name other than a cone feeder. Most LFS here have them next to live food I am in the UK though so not sure what they are called in US,cost about £1.50-£2-50.

Have found it great, to watch them eat and also good way of getting rid of unwanted food cos you just take it out.

Sam,

Do yours eat frozen bloodworms out of the cone, or only live? Just wondering, seeing as mine absolutely ignore all frozen in the cone.

I have one of those feeding cones too, but I only use it for live bloodworm because the frozen worms don't wriggle out of the holes!

Mine looks exactly like that one and is 'Algarde' brand.

I believe they are designed for live blood worm, frozen just needs defrosting then chucking in? thats what I do anyway.

Jon

p.s. Read recently that putting frozen cubes in is ok, as the food will be defrosted before it reaches the gut, comments?

This may be true, but I for one am not prepared to risk the health of my fish.
I always defrost all foods before feeding.

If you throw in still frozen cubes, wouldnt that cool down the water around the cube that much that when they get to the food there will be a couple of C difference in temperature? Wouldn't want them to get a cold shock =/

But all the juce & unnecessary gunk that is frozen with it goes into your tank. Yuck!

Mmmmmm....bloodworm juice...the smell of it must drive them mad !

I thaw my bloodworms but always keep a bit of water to scent the tank get s the fish moving withou adding to much "yuck" to the tank..

It took my DP's a few feeding to figure out that Bloodworms are tasty, plus I feed every second day to keep them hungry.

I was planning on getting a feeding cone for my frozen bloodworms but they like the eye drooper method and I have a little more interaction with them...

Great pictures !!

Hi,

Mine only eat live they turn there noses up at frozen.

If it doesn't wiggle they are not interested.

I have always defrosted too, after hearing it could damage the gut. That info was in a top selling fish magazine that also said "a dozen or so" DP's should "do fine" in a 15 imp Gallon tank.
