:byebye: :rip: the little fellow was dead when i got home from work

i took him back too the shop i bought him from with a sample of my water
they said my water had the wrong ph(too alkiline) so i thought thats funny my tank is acidic(dicus tank ph 6.4)

they also siad my nitrates were though the roof(funny my nitrates are 0 nitrite 0.1)

so i told them to retest the water they only had enough to test my ph (low and behold it was6.4 ACIDIC)
they did not have enough left to test my nitates(i know that this test would have been doctored)

no if i did not know the specific requerments for my discus then they would have gotten away with this blatent con

:grr: i feel mad that they have tried this is it not bad enough that the fish they sold me under 24 hrs ago has died on me  then rubbing salt in by trying to con me :grr:

OH ALSO ACCRDING TO THEM I COULD NOT REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE AS MY WATER WILL KILL IT

they said that i needed acidic water at first (which is correct as they come from the river negro) then in the next breath said that their water was 6.8(is this neutral cos it aint acidic) so who has them in the wrong water me or them?????? :/

6.8 is acidic, but only slightly. I am guessing the fish died from the shock of the change in pH from 6.8 to 5.8, which is a massive change.

P.T.

he was ajusted over night slowly maybee i was too rash how long should i have ajusted it longer i did it slowly over a 10 hour period 5.8 is a misstake the water is 6.4 now that was this mornings ph

Hmmm...

I am not really sure on this...somehow i remember it should be an extremely slow process, but i have forgotten the specifics. Sorry :*)

P.T.

Well I keep mine in a pH of 7.6. Will you be getting another one?

yes it will not deter me i have ordered a malaysian silver arrowana from another shop near by 2 weeks till delivery i personal think it died of shock too but not because of water parameters just plain old transportion (maybee????)

I just read on a fairly reliable site that they need a ph of 6.0-7.0, temp of 75-82, and dh of 1-8. Was any of these off in your tank? How old was the fish?

Mine came down from London in a tiny box with no heat by mail order and couldn't swim at first, so I wouldn't put it all down to stress.

my tank is ph6.4 temp 30(86) kh1.8

soft tannin stained acid water so my water was correct for them (he was a baby but was eating live foods )yolk sac gone 3 1/4" so my water was fine for the arrowana as its my fry discus tank i but him in (tested twice a day thats how i knew that they had doctored my water when they tested it alkiline I DONT THINK SO!!!!!!!!!)

:-( SO COULD IT OF BEEN MY TANK BEING THE CORRCT CHEMISTY TOO MUCH FOR HIM even though i tried to acclimatize him

or should we just say its one of them think they happen

Every clown loach that I tried to raise ended up dying. Come to find out that they were all too young and couldn't handle the stress.

Small arowanas are a very delicate fish and dont tolerate any change in pH or hardness very well at all unless it is done over a matter of days and even weeks, the pH change of 0.5 could have been too much for the fish to handle in just 10 hours. Blacks are particually delicate and really no one should purchase a black arowana under 6", the only reason i recomended ryan to buy the one he has is because i saw the fish feeding first hand and could see it was a healthy and robust fish.

IT WAS MY FAULT THEN i wish it wasnt but hey

i have no advice but maybe some sympathy. don't go blaming yourself, you didn't know. granted research is important but sometimes we just have to learn from personal experience, this is how we all become better at aquarium husbandry.

i had to learn the hard way with pl*cos. i kept losing them when i first started out and had no clue why. then i finally found some info on them which mentioned that the young ones 1" or smaller are very sensitive. DUH. i guess common sense dictates that I should have known that, but i didn't. but now i do. so i got me a 3" pl*co and everything worked out fine. that was 5 years ago. he is still alive although he lives with a friend now in a custom built 300 gallon setup in a restaurant with some other large fishies. and let me tell you, he is huge, over 12" in length. :D :D :D :D :D :D
i still feel bad for the ones i "murdered" while learning. but i say a little prayer for them every now and again and make a promise not to forget the lessons i learned as a result.

:/
