Hi epic

I'm by no means an expert but I have learnt the hard way recently that neon tetras (cardinal tetra in my case but they are very similar) don't do well in new tanks. They are very sensitive to change, more so than other fish that can adapt quite well. My tank has been cycled for about the same amount of time as yours and everything was good but when I added them 2 died and one got a fungal growth on its tail. They all then got ich and I ended up returning them and I'm still treating my tank now. I've learnt that adding neons or cardinals should only really be done once the tank has matured a bit, ie, around 6 months or more.

I don't know what the solution is I'm afraid. I'm only here to say your not alone. Maybe you could give everyone some more info on the growth. Is it a lump or is it furry? What colour, size and shape. Even if you could get a photo up it might help someone answer. I do believe there are treatments you can get for your tank that deal with fungal growths but you really have to be sure what it is before trying to treat it.

Sorry I can't be more help just now.

As David said, some more information would be great :) A list of the other tank mates would be great too, just in case it could be damage related?

Also, you say your tank is cycled but you have no nitrate reading- are you 100% sure about this reading as every cycled tank should have a reading of nitrate, unless very heavily planted or you do large water changes several times a week.
