Few pics of my middle sized tank so you can see how it's coming along. It's a work in progress, things I know I need to do are:-

sort the algae..........it's been running with no plants for a yr or so, just trying to strike a balance now!
finish stocking the tank.... currently 2 blue gourami's, 6 julli cory's, 1 striped talking catfish...... coming soon, 4/5 dwarf cockatoo chiclids and either a pair of gold marble angels or 2 pairs of dwarf gourami's, not quite decided, and a plec, possibly my royal, possibly an albino I've got coming, possibly something else, we'll see!
finish planting the tank......... going for a nice densly planted area on the right hand side then fading down to some lower shrub like plants and hopefully some java moss on the left
upgrade to an external filter....... when money allows
upgrade the lighting so the plants have a better chance..... again when money allows

erm think that's about it for now.... any comments/suggestions gratefully received :D

oh yeah and learn to take decent pics!

damn, i thought i'd managed to resize them properly! just spent an hr sorting those pics, will have another look and resize them proper tomorrow

oOoOoOoO i like :good: the pics arnt that big are they? What size is this 'middle' tank then?

thanks, theres just a couple a bit big there

this is 120l, i have a 350l and 75l and another 120l coming soon :D

Nice setup. Just out of curiosity, do you find that your male opaline gourami picks on your female a lot? Being heavily planted and large enough for them to avoid each other probably helps a lot, so she can get away from him when she wants to, but usually when there are only two, especially when one is a male, the stronger picks on the weaker to the point of making the weaker dangerously stressed. They both look to be in good health, though, so I thought I'd ask to see if you have some sort of anomoly going on there!

I love Trichogaster trichopterus! These are probably my favorite gourami. I love their brillant blue coloration, they are one of the most beautiful freshwater fish IMHO. Mine really seem to love Seaweed Salad, their large need for greens in their diet is often overlooked, and the seaweed salad is an easy way to provide them with it via a veggie-clip. Have they nippled on your plants yet? Mine seemed to nibble a lot on my plants, but after I started to feed the seaweed salad they eased up a lot on the plants.

Have fun with your tank!

Thanks for the nice comments everyone, i think it's really starting to come together now, can't wait to get my cockatoo's on friday! :D

nope they don't really fight at all, kept them together for about 4 yrs now, they've only moved into the bigger tank about 2/3 weeks ago, were in my 3 foot community tank up until then. They'll occasionally chase each other a bit but nothing major and they've never had any diseases or injuries so I assume they're doing OK together!

They haven't done any damage in this tank, but I struggled with a phantom plant eater in the tank they were in before, never knew who it was, must have been them! That seaweed salad stuff looks good, i'll try and get hold of some, thanks for the tip :D

lovely natural looking tank!

i dont kno if its cos we live close to each other but it looks kinda similar to my 80G with your rocks and pebbles.

considering I got the rocks last yr when I was on holiday in Dorset, picked them up off the beach, I don't think our geography has anything to do with it! Thanks though :D

Its good to know it can work. So they're over 4 years old? I guess they're pretty big now. I look forward to mine being fully grown. Now they are still under 3 inches.

Snap i had the same problem with resizing my pic's from my thread.

Looks good though you using CO2 on your tank?

I've found out that fish keeping alot of the time is trial and error yes there are certain speices of fish which you should definatly not keep with each other but there are some instances where you would be suprised if you saw it a friend of min had a 20" silver arowana and some plecos in his tank now that wasn't anything to be suprised about what was that he had about 20 small hatchet fish in there too aswell as some neon tetras and some other small fish. Another person i know has a 10 Male Jag and a 4" Jack dempsey living together in a 100gal

nope no co2, only just planted it the other day, they'll all probably be dead within a week!

getting a second light for the tank, hopefully tomorrow, so fingers crossed that'll give the boost they need to do well. If not I might have to consider some gadgetry.

Were getting another tank next week and eventually that's going to be a fully planted one with co2 and stuff.... but that's all a bit technical for me so were just going to keep it ticking over until my fella moves in so he can do all that stuff :)

yeah definately, a lot of it depends on the actual fish in question. Some things like chiclids really have they're own personalities and some can/can't be mixed. I've my Oscar in with a pair of firemouths, some people have said I shouldn't but he's soft as anything, he's just mates with everyone and they've loads of room so I think they're fine.

People forget far too often, there's no diffinitive(sp) rules to fishkeeping, were all learning every day and sometimes you have to be prepared to take a chance and you may end up with fantastic results
:D
