Hey Im trying to breed my bettas!

I have my male in a five gallon tank halfway full and my female next to him in a half gallon glass. In the tank is a rock with holes in it and a silk plant. ChooChoo, my male, flares at Pinky my female and usally he starts building a buble nest afterward. I changed the water this afternoon and that destroyed it. He hasnt built it back as fast as I would have like since tomorrow if conditions are right I will introduce Pinky to the tank. This is my first time breeding so if anything sounds wrong I would appreciate you telling me.

If I get babys I will put them in a 15 gallon tank to grow out.

Thank you Kossy!

Right now ChooChoo is swiming s-like in front of Pinky and his nest is half the size of the cup so when I get home from school today it might be as big as it.

No probs man its really cool breeding bettas and good luck ;)

Please do not listen to Kossy and put 2 or 3 females in with your male unless you are trying to get one or all of them killed. I am going to post some information from some of the top breeders out there. These are people that win their classes at IBC shows and make good money on their fish because they do things right and produce top quality.

Here are a couple of great forums/ message boards where many of the pros hang out.

And if you are really interested in Bettas, here is the IBC (International Betta Congress) website.

Good luck to you! Bettas are a lot of fun and it is very rewarding to work towards a purpose and have that pan out for you.

Hey I have 3 betta tanks all with 5 females : 1 male. None get killed. It really depends on the bettas seriously. But in cases they may kill one off. ;)

...I've never had a female betta death beczausre theres 5 in a tank. I breed bettas and i've asked many people and they all agreed to have 5 females. Its good with 3 but in a large tank you may have 5. ;)

Just because it has worked okay for you doesn't mean it works for everyone. Posting general statements to newbies might lead them into a disaster that could have been avoided and might just turn them from the hobby. Bettas in general are not community fish--it is against their nature. Your experience is much more of an exception to the rule. I would hate for people to lose their new pets due to "so-and-so said..." Like I said, I have heard over and over of people turning away from fish keeping and Bettas specificly due to false information.
