Just a quick update, I went to the LFS today and bought an API test kit which includes ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. I also bought a JBL Kh test to complete the basic set. When I got back I did what any nanoer would do and measured these parameter; this is what I found: Ammonia=0 nitrite=0 nitrate=10-20 (kind of between colours), Kh=21 pH= 8.4. I am due a water change tomorrow and will remove about 20% since the recent problems has kicked the nitrates up and it will also help remove more phosphate. I have stopped dosing with the carbonate buffer now and will add as required.
I think in a couple of days I will be ready to add my first coral, this is where I believe Ski and SH plus others are more expertise than me (no experience with coral) what is your opinion on a good first coral? I have been thinking mushrooms, Zoa or xenia? I was told to go for Zoa because they close up if chemistry not correct and gives some chance to sort it out. Mushrooms apparently just fall apart i.e to late to save. Also does green star polyps come under the title of xenia? When I hear the word xenia I think of xenia elongata or the pom pom xenia but not green star polyps. Anyway that is it for now.

Regards :good:

Good starter corals are indeed things like Green Star polyps, Xenia, mushrooms, zooanthids etc...Im sure aware of this but stay awa from anemones, mandarin fish etc...far too early!
Im sure your aware of this but better safe than sorry :good:
