I've been treating the tank for 6 days with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Super Ick Cure. I've had the temp at 84 degrees and I still have fish with white spots and it seems to be spreading to the other fish. Per the instructions I used a lower dose due to my loaches and corys but I would think I'd see a result by now. How long does this take to cure? Also should I switch medications or just continue with this one?
Thanks
Kyle

Is is Malachite green? That works best. And before you re treat, do a big water change...
Yes it does contain malachite green.

The best thing you can do is turn your temp up to 85 degrees and do a 20 percent waterchange and do a gravel vac. And do nothing else this will rid your tank of ICH. You dont need any medicine this will kill the parasite. Plus keep doing small water changes everyday and keep the temp at 85 degrees for a week or so.

It can take weeks for ICH to completed go away. Sometimes you will see the fish alright, but at the bottom of the tank you will still have the spores, which will release the larvae and start the cycled again.

Rise the temp to accelerated the cycle, the meds only can kill the larvae. Once it gets attached to the fish or is in the egg stage the meds can't do anything to it.

So then based on the life cycle of the parasite and depending on where in the life cycle the parasites were when I started treating I could have to treat for 2 weeks it sounds like.

Sky,

For what it's worth, once when I had to treat for ich, it took nine days of treatment before the visible spots were all gone. Then, of course, I continued medication for another six days.

I'm just going to treat for 14 days with a water change every 7 days during that time. my bala is COVERED in spots right now. at this rate my fishless cycle is going to be for naught. Between the neons and cardinals dieing for no reason and this ich outbreak I'm going to have like 5 fish left in a 46USG tank. I'm about to start over on this stupid tank. I hope I don't have these problems with my 54 when I get it started.

I have tried many different things for ich....medication alone....medication plus heat....salt alone....salt plus heat....salt plus medication with and without heat...and I found that....if the ich is bad...you need medication and heat....if it is only a mild case then the salt and heat may do the job....but you need to keep treating even after the spots go away (due to the life cycle of the parasite)....

I am lucky...my tank has been ich free for 4 months now (fingers crossed)....it has helped me quarantining any new fish before adding them to the tank

Today I did a 30% water change vacuming the gravel. have also switch medication to Mardel Maracide.

You will find that in the long run with your fish that raising the temp and changing water and a gravel vac will do the job just fine. And it is a lot less stressful on your fish. All that medicine is bad for fish. I always try to get what ever ails my fish without the meds.

well since the heat and vacuming method is the slowest and after seeing my poor fish covered head to tail in little dots I'd like to speed things up. The stuff I bought is what my LFS guy uses on his discus so it can't be too bad for the fish since discus are very tempermental.

I just found the stuff I was recommended by my top LFS (forgot where I hid it from my dog)

It's called "SUPER ICH PLUS" made by Aquatronics.

Ive used it 3 times over 5 years. Every time the spots were gone in 2-3 days tops.
Once was really bad.

First 2 times I was a newbie and didn't even raise the temp, it still worked.

HTH :)

If I can find it and the ich doesn't go away with the mardel stuff. I'll try to find the aquatronics stuff.
