I purchased my Gymnothorax polyuranodon about 3 months ago and until this day, i havnt seen it eat! I bought some guppies and ghost shrimp, and after being in the tank for 3 months, they are all still there! I tried frozen blood worms, frozen brine shrimp, pieces of real shrimp, dried shrimp and nothing! I have never seen him eat! Hes alive so i guess he must be eating something! My question is, How can i get him to eat these foods? I have heard that creating a different water level helps, but what does that mean and how do i do it? please help me on this one! Anyone!!! Thanks!

Hmm, you posted this exact thread in the oddball section too, but said it was a 'freshwater' eel (which it isn't)

So do you have it in brackish water or freshwater?

I posted in both so I could get fast feeback and I really didnt know where this question really belonged so i said heck, i'lll put it in both. I have it in fresh water... I have made the environment as naturat as possible with hiding places, java moss, driftwood, added salt, etc, so i guess you can say its brakish water. I need more help!!

Is that your eel in your avatar? If so that that is not Gymnothorax polyuranodon, it is Gymnothorax tile goldspot varient.

What is the SG of the water in your tank? In my experience so called freshwater morays (Gymnothorax and Echidna species) only feed well when kept in brackish water with a SG of 1.010 or higher. It is normal for eels of these species to have periods of not eating but will gorge themselves when they do feed, my 24" G.tile has been known to consume up to 30 whitebait in a single feeding but not feed for two or three weeks after. If you are keeping your eel in suitably strong brackish water and it still isnt eating then i would suggest some live foods like ghost shrimp or small black mollies.
