my gold nugget pleco died

i dont know how.
i've only had him for a ltitle over a week.
only wierd behavior i noticed was that the last day before he died he was out alot, and not hiding, and then he started turning white. not like ich, but just little splotches. and then i woke up to find him completely pale and dead.......

i really dont know whats wrong. i havent lost a fish in a long time, and i had to loose the most expensive fish that i bought.

anyone know what a reason could be why?

my water is perfectly fine. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate.
and the only other things that could effect my water is i add diyco2, i add iron fertilizer couple times a week, and i add a little bit of kno3 everyday.

any help/ideas would be great...

I'm sorry to learn about your pleco.

Sometimes a fish has been through a lot by the time he arrives in your tank. Each time a fish is moved from one place to another, along the distribution chain, it is being changed to different water and possibly good or bad sanitary conditions. The time it is actually in transit is even harder on them.

Perhaps you just got one that was exhausted and weak from his journey. If his immune system was badly compromised from all the stress, he probably caught a bacterial infection when he was exposed to ordinary bacteria in your tank.

Did you talk to your lfs about a refund or replacement?
