Fish Herder
When I decided that I wanted to start breeding killi's I knew that I could end up with a lot of fry so I searched high and low on the web to find ways of saving money by doing a bit of DIY and also how to keep the temp in the fish house to a reasonably comfortable level so that I wouldn't have to heat all the tanks.
So first acrylic tanks are great at keeping their heat, especially if the ambient room temperature is around 25c (which thanks to my dehumidifier and air pump the fish house is). Where ever I could I divided tanks with plastic canvas and file spines and if I needed to extend the canvas those plastic shoe strings "scoobies" came in very useful for stitching the canvas together.
I've done this to all my larger tanks 4 footer is divided into 3 sections with slightly different environments for the species inside - left are my apisto apache breeding group - middle are the betta girls tank with a couple runaway apaches and my panduro's - right are my corydoras and pensioned off killi gardneri.
The 3.5 footer is divided into 6 sections giving the boys just under 6inches x 1 foot x 8inches to swim around in (I haven't filled the tank all the way to avoid the boys jumping into their neighbours area, although this would be very awkward as the canvas goes all the way to the lid).
I have some 24x12x12 tanks that are split into half and these have my killifish breeding groups in.
I have some 24x12x12 tanks divided into 4 sections, these are used as holding tanks for new fish.
I have many of the small 1 gallon critter tanks for growing out the killi fry, and betta fry, who then move up into the bigger grow out tanks.
One tank is for my betta honeymooners.
At the moment I have one 24" tank resting and two 5 gallon tanks waiting for my killi's to get bigger.
A big investment all around but I so enjoy going to the fish house and seeing the fish, and it is so rewarding, and there is always something I need to do/improve/move around etc. etc.
I have only been doing this sort of fish keeping on this scale since around Oct/Nov last year so there are still many more things I can change, but little steps
Anyway please see my pictures/videos and I hope you enjoy and please forgive my amateur footage, I promise to do better next time -
