Before i go 2 bed at night i always look at my fish to see if every thing is ok
but last night i found that one of my penguin tetras has had a bad fin ( like something has nipped it) ( and also in my fish tank are 6 penguin tetras and 5 leopard danio)

What fish is it likly to be and why is it doing it
how can i stop them doin this

Any1 help plz

how big is the tank?

does it look like something took a bite out of it or does it look like its fluffy around the edges. It could of been the danios as they can be abit nippy or it could of been in a fight with another tetra

18 gallons - 72l

na it looks like a bit and abit off the fin was taken off

Will the fin ever heal like it was or will it stay like the same

um i dont think its fin rot

If it is how will i no it is and how can i treat it

However
i dont think it is fin rot it looks just like a little bite

But lookin at him (the fish) he does not seem to be swimming around much really only wen u has 2 or one its feeding time

id say he was bitten it dosent sound like finrot.Has he been chaced around the tank.Add abit of meilfix to the tank and keep the water clean.Or if you can move him to his own little tank that would be much better

umm well all my fish chase each other around in a nice way

ummmm when u say move him on his own the prob is that i only have a 4l tank with no heaters light or anything really

fin rot will look like a bite but i would watch from a distance to see if there is any fighting in the tank. when you sit far away the fish can't see you and act as if you are not around. if there is no other fish harassing that fish then fin rot is probably the culprit. I treat it by seperating the fish to another tank and keeping the tank filtered. I then take the fish out 3 times a day and pat the fins dry with cotton swabs with hydrogen peroxide. pat the fins dry again and rub on a triple action bacterial cream or neosporin works just fine. it must be a cream not an ointment. over two days raise the temp in the tank to 83 if the fish can handle it (at 82.6 degrees the bacteria that causes this dies). The fish should be able to go in the main tank in about 7 days. THIS IS JUST WHAT I DO, there are also other treatments.

I mean, test for Ammonia, NitIte and NitrAte.

Even if it not finrot, still good to test anyway, i test mine once a month, just for my own happyness.

I have seen fish with fin fot, with no frayed edges.
