well its been 5 weeks of cycling and i spoke to my marine friend yesterday and he assured me that it would be safe to add my first fish. i got a starfish and some other little goodies along with 15kgs of LR last weekend and then waited impatiently through the week to get my first fishies for the tank. the tank now has 40kg (88lb) of live rock, 2 collector urchins, 8 tiny hermit crabs, a starfish, trochus snails and a turbo snail. hitchikers so far are a sea squirt, a small black urchin, a small 'feathery' starfish that is black and white like TV fuzz and hes really floppy not like the stiff starfish i have, heaps of feather dusters, 2 peppermint shrimp and now NO aptasias yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

then yesterday i added my two clown fish (scientific name = ocellaris?? ???) and a bi colour blenny. heath said the blenny should start to eat some of the extra algae around the tank at the moment. the blenny wouldnt come out of his barnacle long enough to be caught so i got a nice big barnacle as well :) i acclimatised them for about an hour and a half by adding a turkey baster of water to the bag every five minutes. the bags were full after the hour and a half and all the stats were the same as the tank water so i let them be free :) the clowns are captive bred by a fella just north of here so i liked getting them over the wild caught. they were more expensive than the wild caught ones but i liked the idea of buying the captive bred ones.

i have a couple of questions about my nemos :) ive been reading that they need an anemone. will my two be ok until i get an anemone? when can i get an anemone? are they something i have to have a mature tank for or can i get one soon? if not, when would be cool for getting an anemone? what is the best one for clowns? sites mention lots of them but i like the fatter ones if you know what i mean :) ive looked at a few but some grow very big and i only have a 4ft tank. i was looking at heteractis crispa. would this be ok?? any other suggestions would be good. something that isnt going to take up half the tank would be good to :)

heres a few pics. i dont have any full shots of the tank at the moment but ill get some nice ones today as it has changed a fair bit since i posted the last lot of pics :) it seems there is no option these days for adding pic links to photobucket or whatever youre using. im just adding the links for now

As a newbie myself I have researched that you really dont need a anemone and they should only be attempted in mature aquaria.
Occlearis clowns don't need an anemone they will host in whatever is available (leather toadstool, xenia etc)

got awesome lighting already as it is eventually going to be a predominantly reef tank

will just wait for longer and still get one when the time is right

lol its cold here and shes a tiny girl :)

Clownfish do not need an anemone, that's a myth. Mine have no anemone and they're doing just fine ;)

If memory serves Fishlette, you've got either dual halides, or a bunch of T5s. If so, you could consider nems in your tank. I'd suggest reading the anemone guide for beginners atop the inverts section :good:

yup its got 5 bulbs all up. 4 are t5's :) i basically bought it because i wanted a predominantly reef tank and its what my marine friend suggested for the corals etc
