Best advice I can give is to google "setting up a marine aquarium". I'm not being sarcastic you understand but having just looked at the various sources available I have read every one on the first page of the google results. There are also a load of pinned bits and pieces on here that are well worth reading.
I noticed your post on a thread about her test results, so it's probably worth saying at this point, that apart from being wet and in a glass box, keeping a marine aquarium is very very different from tropical.

Look at this link here which has a fair bit of info about setting up.

First of all welcome! :fun:

Well there are load of different systems and loads of different stock choices!! Do you have an idea of tank size? Or what you want to keep? tell us a rough tank size and anything that's important to you to have?

I will say I was concerned after reading all the info on the web that I wouldmt be able to do it, it's a lot easier than it sounds and we're here to help!! So ask away any questions you have!!

Realistically you will need to spare an hour one day per week (maintenance!), plus feeding everyday.

Looking forward to your reply!! :hyper:

+1 from me!

Also check out some of the journels in this section as they're packed full of vital info and will give you an idea of what your up against.

Look through the pinned resource section also as I found it helped an awful lot.

Personally, I think marine tanks are just as easy as tropical but I do regular maintenance like clockwork and now my tank is stable, very rarely get any probs. + With cured live rock the cycling of a marine tank is quick and easy + no fish have to suffer.

Don't be afraid to ask questions on here. No matter how dumb you think they are. We've all asked them at some point and no matter what you throw at us we would have read it and answered it many a time.

Welcome to the salty side of life! :good:

:hi: to the salty side of the forum. As already suggested i would start with reading journels, they are a wealth of knowledge and you can learn along the way :good: then ask questions, loads of questions

I think it also comes down to how much spare time you have, keeping saltwater fish is one thing but keeping corals (as im finding out) is a completely different ball game which requires a LOT more reading and knowledge and more time.

I agree with the other posts though, read as much as you can on setting up a marine aquarium and also read peoples post's asking for help with problems they have then you will be able to get a rough idea about what your taking on and the possible problems/issues you may run in to.

If you do decide to go marine defo start with fish only and get used to that for a while before moving on to corals. I waited 6 months after keeping just fish before getting any corals and spent my spare time reading peoples posts on here.
