My First Fish Euthanasia :'(

ive jsut put down my poor fish, a gorgeous marble molly. his face was rotting away, i have NO idea what it is ive tried everything but he just gets worse. the bottom half of his head had completley rotted away and i could see inside him and his gill skin had all gone, just pink flesh was showing. his eyeball was also on the brink of popping out. for his sake and the sake of my other fishies, i put him down today it was sad but i am glad i did it.

i used the clove oil method and it was very quick and looked painless.

bye bye velvet, i will miss you!!

The fish had Columnaris (commonly called mouth fungus), however it isn't a fungus. It is a real nasty bacterial infection that regularly kills within a few days of infection. It is often associated with poor environmental conditions and stress. Regular tank maintenance, (water changes, gravel cleaning & filter cleaning) will help minimise the occurrence of this problem in tanks. However, it can also be introduced with new fish and will spread quickly if not treated.
Most broad-spectrum medications will treat it but some strains are virtually impossible to cure.
